Summer Dinner Party Al Fresco

I love summer!  My husband is a school teacher so we look forward to spending time together as a family during the summer months.  We just returned from a three week whirlwind trip to Austin to visit family, then to Colorado for five amazing days in the cool mountain air.

On our last evening in Austin, my mom and I decided it would be a great idea to throw a little impromptu “al fresco” dinner party just for the girls.  I mean it was only 101 degrees outside, so why not?! My mom likes to entertain so we picked through her dishes and random décor and came up with a fun, girlie tablescape, complete with fresh flowers, a beautiful cheese board and fresh mint mojitos. Yum!  Despite the heat and the relentless mosquitoes we had a great time visiting, laughing and eating way to much bread!

Friends! I promise you can do this too! It just takes a little bit of creativity and a willingness to give it a try.  Take a look around your home.  Find a few things you love. Buy a $5 bunch of flowers, grab a table or even a blanket and some pillows, throw some crackers and cheese on a plate and you’ve got a party! Oh, and don’t forget the twinkle lights 🙂 But most importantly, spend this time with the people you love.  Put your phones away! Look at each other, face to face, and talk about your day, your dreams, your life.  Time gathered around the table with friends will always be time well spent and a memory to cherish. So just do it already, you won’t regret it!

  1. How fun! I would love more details. What is the dipping sauce for the bread you used? or that wonderful dip on the top?
I love this idea – I am thinking of doing a little fancy back to school dinner with my little fam. I think the boys would get a kick out of it 🙂

    1. We found a caramel sauce at TJ Maxx that we used on the brie and then we also found a jam there that we poured over a bar of cream cheese. You should definitely do a fancy dinner, it was so fun! 🙂
